Check below for more FAQs you Need to Know.
Guatemala Considerations What airport do I fly into? Fly into Guatemala City — La Aurora International Airport. Airport code: GUA. How do I get to and from the airport to Antigua? Transportation has been arranged for all guests. Details will be shared via our WhatsApp group chat closer to the date. Please ensure that Hillary and Towanda have your flight information as well as a copy of your passport as soon as possible so your pickup can be coordinated seamlessly. Do I need a visa to enter Guatemala? U.S. citizens do not currently require a visa for tourist stays in Guatemala. However, we strongly recommend checking the most current entry requirements with the U.S. Department of State at travel.state.gov before booking your trip. Do I need any vaccinations? We recommend consulting your doctor or a travel health clinic well in advance of your trip. The CDC also provides current recommendations at cdc.gov/travel. Is Guatemala safe to visit? Antigua is one of the safest and most well-established tourist destinations in all of Central America. The city takes the safety of its visitors seriously — security cameras are installed on virtually every street corner and are actively monitored by a dedicated tourist police force specifically assigned to Antigua. As with any international travel, we encourage you to stay aware of your surroundings and travel in groups when possible. But rest assured, you are in good hands. What currency is used in Guatemala? The local currency is the Guatemalan Quetzal (GTQ). U.S. dollars are widely accepted in Antigua, particularly at hotels and tourist areas. We recommend having some local currency on hand for smaller purchases. Should I exchange money before I arrive? You can exchange currency at the airport upon arrival or withdraw from ATMs in Antigua. Notify your bank before traveling to avoid any card restrictions. Is tipping customary in Guatemala? Yes. A 10% tip is standard at restaurants. It is also customary to tip hotel staff, drivers, and tour guides. Will my U.S. phone plan work in Guatemala? Most major U.S. carriers offer international plans. Check with your carrier before departure. What about staying connected with the group? All guests are required to download WhatsApp at least one week prior to arrival. This is how we will communicate all updates, itinerary details, and day-of happenings throughout the celebration. Do not wait until you land — please download it now. Is the water safe to drink? We recommend drinking bottled water throughout your stay in Guatemala. What should I pack? Some essentials to consider — sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes for cobblestone streets, a light jacket for cooler evenings, any personal medications, and a copy of your travel documents. What shoes should I wear in Antigua? Antigua has cobblestone streets throughout. We strongly recommend flat shoes or dressy sandals. But if you must choose heels, definitely block heels or wedges over stilettos for both comfort and safety.
Before You Arrive
Extended Wedding InfoÂ
What is the Welcome Party? On the evening of arrival, Saturday January 2 at 7pm, we will host a Welcome Party at El Convento Boutique Hotel. Dress code is Vacation Dinner Attire — think elevated resort wear, flowy dresses, linen suits, and chic separates. What is happening on Sunday January 3? Sunday is a free day to explore Antigua at your own pace. We have curated a list of restaurants, historic monuments, and adventures on the Wedding page to help you make the most of it. Stay tuned for any additional group activities as well. What about gifts? Due to the logistics of international travel, we kindly ask that gifts not be purchased nor brought to the celebration in Antigua. In lieu of gifts, we will have a Wishing Well and card collection on site. Your presence, your energy, and your love on our wedding day is more than enough. If you would like to contribute beyond that, our Wishing Well is available on the Registry page of this website. Why is the guest list limited for the Guatemala wedding? Every person who received an invitation was invited to both the Send-Off and the wedding in Guatemala. However, coordinating large groups for international travel is overwhelming — logistically, financially, and experientially for everyone involved. Our Guatemala celebration operated on a first come, first served basis. If you are here, you made it — and we could not be more grateful to have you with us for the most important day of our lives. What time is the ceremony? The ceremony begins at 3pm on Monday January 4. Please plan to arrive early. What is the policy on phones during the ceremony? We are having an unplugged ceremony. We want nothing more than to look out and see the faces of the people we love most — not a sea of screens. Our photographer will be capturing every single moment beautifully so you do not have to worry about a thing. We kindly ask that phones be turned completely off during the ceremony so we can all be fully present together. It is one of the greatest gifts you could give us on our wedding day. After the ceremony, photograph and video to your heart's content — we want you to have memories too. Please do not be the only person caught in our wedding photos holding up a phone. Trust us, that is not the memory you want to leave us with. 😊 Where is the wedding venue? The ceremony and reception will take place at Convento Capuchinas — a stunning 18th-century convent located just across the street from El Convento Boutique Hotel. Simply cross the street, listen for the music, and look for the grand double doors at the corner. You will know you are in the right place. What are the transportation details on the wedding day? Transportation depends on which hotel you are staying. Guests staying at El Convento — the venue is directly across the street. Simply cross over, follow the music, and head through the double doors at the corner. Guests staying at Los Pasos — a shuttle will be running from 2:30pm and 3:00pm. The 3:00pm run is the final shuttle to the venue. Please plan accordingly and do not miss it. You are welcome to leave the celebration at any time during the evening. Outside of the scheduled shuttle times, Uber and local taxis are readily available in Antigua. Please note that a reserved shuttle will not be available mid-evening, so plan your departure accordingly. When the final dance of the evening commences, your shuttle will be waiting to return guests to Los Pasos. No need to arrange your own ride home at the end of the night — we have you covered. What happens after the ceremony? Following the ceremony there will be a cocktail hour, dinner under the stars, an evening of dancing, and a Last Dance to close out the night beautifully. What time does the wedding celebration end? Come with your dancing shoes and no early commitments. This is not the night to have a bedtime. What is the dress code for the Welcome Party? Vacation Dinner Attire — elevated resort wear. Flowy dresses, linen suits, and chic separates are perfect. What is the dress code for the wedding ceremony? Tan Formal Attire. We kindly ask all guests to remain within the neutral tones reflected in our wedding palette. Can I wear white, ivory, or cream? Out of respect for the bride, we ask that guests refrain from wearing white, ivory, or cream to any of the wedding events. Will there be organized group activities on the free day? More details will be shared via our WhatsApp group chat closer to the date. Make sure you have the app downloaded at least one week before arrival. How will I stay informed of updates and day-of details? All communication will happen through our dedicated WhatsApp group chat. You must download WhatsApp at least one week before your arrival date. This is how we will keep everyone connected, informed, and on schedule throughout the celebration. Can I bring a plus one? Plus-ones are by invitation only and will be reflected on your invitation. All additional guest requests are approved at our discretion. Can I bring my children? Our Guatemala celebration is an adults-only event. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to use this as a little getaway for yourselves. What is the overall itinerary? The full celebration runs January 2–5, 2027. Arrival and Welcome Party are Saturday January 2, Sunday January 3 is a free day to explore Antigua, the ceremony and reception are Monday January 4, and Tuesday January 5 is departure day.
